Essential steps to indie productivity

June 17, 2010

Not disturb, me productive.

So it’s been a few weeks of intensive work coming up with several prototypes for game ideas.

So far I have been very productive so I wanted to share what I learned in this past few weeks of working on my own. I have resumed the core concepts in a few easy steps that I think everyone should follow in order to become productive.

Here it goes:

  1. Wake up at a reasonable hour.
  2. Think about what you’ll be making while you make some coffee.
  3. Play some of the games featured on IndieGames and TIG.
  4. Scrap your idea and come up with something else (wich will coincidentally resemble the games you’ve just played)
  5. Browse the web while you “let the idea bounce around in your head”.
  6. It’s almost lunch time, might as well browse the web some more.
  7. Make lunch, eat lunch.
  8. Repeat steps 2-5.
  9. It’s almost dinner time, might as well browse the web some more.
  10. Make dinner, eat dinner.
  11. Yawn, you’re sleepy, you won’t be able to do any programming in this state. Go to bed.
  12. Repeat steps 1-11 for a week.
  13. Make a game in three hours while a friend is visiting.

And done! Yay for indie life!

  1. Extra points if you follow the steps and then blog about it.
